Q Background As I have evolved as a teacher, one of the most important things I have learned is how to take the various terms/concepts/theories we are learning in class and make them more personal and relatable to the students. When we can understand these concepts on a personal level, we are more apt to understand and retain them. Because of this, I use a terminology journal assignment in this course. As a result, I have seen stronger grades and, more importantly, deeper comprehension, retention, and application (both in actual discussion and in writing) of terms. Being able to articulate the terminology in your own way is a huge step for you in becoming an academic, a scholar, and a learner in the world. Deadlines 1. Normally, the terminology journal will be due on Tuesday, but this week, it is due on Sunday. 2. Late policy reminder: The assignment is due this week on Sunday at 11:59 p.m. If it is turned in on Monday, you will get 10% off your grade. If it is it turned in Sunday, you will get 20% off your grade. Your assignment 1. 10 bolded terms or concepts from this week's chapter. Here is a copy of Chapter 1 of the textbook, if you have not received yours yet: Ch 1 Essential Communication Textbook.pdf Actions 2. The format will be the same throughout the quarter. Here are the instructions: Terminology Journal Instructions.pdf Actions . You MUST use this format to get full points. 3. One point for the paraphrased definition from the textbook and one point for how you connect the term to your life. For the "How I connect the term to my life" portion, DO NOT just use the term in a sentence. You will not get the points. 4. Take terms and definitions out of the textbook NOT the internet. 5.
